Little more than shopping

It was Von’s idea to switch things up for once. He’d suggested a little styling challenge: each of them would pick an entire outfit for the other, from clothes to accessories. Now, at a private designer showroom, Von stood in front of a rack of clothes, casually flipping through the hangers with a faint smirk.

“Come on, pretty girl. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

I picked out a D&G’s vintage black leather jacket and held it up against Von, giving it a quick look before handing it to him. Underneath, I chose a simple white tank top, paired with his usual tight, dark-wash skinny dior homme jeans. A chrome hearts gunslinger belt, a thick silver chain, diamond studs, and some few rings like chrome hearts cemetery ring to completed the look. I stepped back, looking over my choices with a satisfied smile.

“Black leather, white tank, skinny jeans. And don’t forget the chrome jewelry. I want you looking like you just stepped out of an Atlanta rap video.”

Von watched from a slight distance, leaning against a velvet-covered pillar with his arms crossed. He couldn't help but crack a small grin, watching how effortlessly she handled the high-end pieces. She had taste—that much was obvious. The way she paired the ruggedness of the leather with the sleekness of the Dior showed she knew exactly how to play with contrast.

He took the jacket from her, sliding it onto his shoulders and checking himself in the full-length mirror. He adjusted the Chrome Hearts belt, the silver clinking softly against the denim. He looked every bit the superstar she described, the lighting of the showroom catching the diamonds in his ears perfectly.

"Atlanta, huh?"

Von chuckled, turning slightly to catch his reflection from a different angle. He looked lethal in the fit, dangerous but polished. I tilted my head, looking him over in the mirror before giving an approving nod. The outfit was expensive, but that was hardly the point. The skinny jeans were practically a given; Von had always liked that fit. I simply added the leather jacket, white tank, and a few carefully chosen pieces of jewelry to bring the whole look together.

“You’re welcome. Besides, you’re rich. I wasn’t about to dress you in something ordinary.”
“And don’t act surprised. Atlanta gang style and skinny jeans go hand in hand. I know you like them anyway.”

I stepped closer, adjusting the silver chain around his neck. Von pushed off the pillar, walking closer as he watched her adjust the chain. There was something almost domestic about the scene—her standing there, fixing his jewelry, while he let her do it without complaint. It was rare to see Von this patient with anyone unless they really mattered to him.

"You ain't lyin,"
"The skinny jean thing? That's been your signature since day one. Everybody knows."

Von chimed in, nodding toward the mirror where his silhouette looked sharp and lean in those Dior jeans. He caught her eye in the reflection, then looked back at her, his expression softening just a fraction—a side of him most people never saw outside of closed doors.

"Yeah, yeah... keep talkin',"

He muttered, though there was no real heat behind it. I laughed softly, giving the chain one final adjustment before stepping back to admire the whole outfit. My eyes briefly wandered to his belt, and I reached down to straighten the buckle.

“What’s that supposed to mean? You should be thanking me. I just saved you from picking the same outfit you wear every other day.”
“Admit it. I know your taste better than you do.”

I glanced up at him through the mirror, smiling smugly. He raised an eyebrow, looking down at her through the mirror as she straightened his belt buckle. He didn't pull away; instead, he leaned into it just a little, letting her finish what she was doing. Von noticed the way he actually seemed relaxed—no tension in his shoulders, no scanning the room for threats. Just focused on her.

"Know my taste better than me?"

Von repeated, a low laugh rumbling in his chest. He turned fully now, facing her, towering over her slim frame. He folded his arms across the leather jacket, making his biceps flex under the sleeve.

“Man, you bold. Most people wouldn't even dare say that to my face.” He paused, studying her face for a second before shaking his head with a crooked grin. “But... you ain't wrong. This shit look good.”

I smiled, clearly pleased with his approval. I gave the front of his jacket a final little tug, smoothing out the leather before looking up at him.

“See? I told you. You just needed someone with better taste to dress you.”
“Now turn around. I wanna see the whole thing.”

I took a step back, admiring the outfit once more. Von rolled his eyes playfully, muttering something under his breath about being bossed around, but he complied. He did a slow pivot on his heel, showing off the back profile of the fitted leather jacket and the way the skinny jeans hugged his frame. Every movement made the Chrome Hearts hardware glint under the showroom lights.

"There. Whole view. Happy now?"
"Y'all done playing stylist yet?"

He looked back over his shoulder at her, one hand tucked into his pocket, pulling the leather taut across his back. I stepped away from the mirror and turned toward Von, folding my arms with a playful smile.

“Alright, your turn Von. Pick something for me. Clothes, shoes, accessories—everything. I wanna see what you’d choose.”
“And don’t just pick something safe.”

I gestured toward the racks, giving him full control over the selection. Von stopped mid-stride, crossing his arms as he studied her for a moment. His eyes traveled over her petite frame, taking in her long black hair and that pale skin before landing back on her face. He hadn't thought about having to pick something out for her, but the challenge was on now.

"Oh, we goin' there?"

He murmured, a slow grin spreading across his face. He started walking toward the racks, his boots clicking against the floor as he moved with purpose. Von pulled a couple of hangers off the rack first—high-end streetwear mixed with something a little more feminine but still sharp.

I followed him between the racks, watching curiously as he picked out a few pieces. I tilted my head, trying to guess what he had in mind, before reaching over to touch the sleeve of one of the garments.

“You’re taking this seriously, huh?”
“Now I’m curious. What exactly are you planning to put me in?”

I glanced at the clothes in his hands, then back at him with an amused smile. Von shook his head, not even looking at her as he flipped through another section of the rack. He pulled out a cropped vintage graphic tee—faded black, maybe early 2000s era—and tossed it lightly into the air before catching it again.

"Got to take it serious when you tryna humble me like that,"

he countered, finally stopping in front of a row of higher-end pieces. He pointed to a pair of wide-leg cargo pants in olive green, heavy canvas material with tactical straps hanging loose.

"Nah, nah... listen."

He set the items down on a nearby display table and turned to face her properly, gesturing broadly with both hands.

"I visionin' somethin' real effortless. Like... you just thrown it on and already look fly. No tryin'."

I looked down at the olive cargo pants, then immediately shook my head, pointing at them with a mildly offended expression.

“Von. No long pants. Absolutely not.”
“Shorts, skirts, anything but those. You can figure out the rest.”

I crossed my arms, giving him a playful but firm look. He let out a short bark of laughter, holding his hands up in mock surrender. He shook his head, glancing back at the cargos like they'd personally insulted him.

"My bad, my bad! Long pants gone. We strippin' 'em out right now."

He tossed them back onto the rack with a flick of his wrist, already moving deeper into the showroom section. He bypassed the street gear entirely this time, heading straight for the area where the more tailored, avant-garde pieces hung. His fingers brushed past a few silk shirts before settling on a pleated mini skirt in deep charcoal—structured but flowy enough to move. Then he grabbed a cropped baby tee in optic white, fitted close to the body, and a pair of chunky platfor sneakers in a clean monochrome palette.

I stared at the outfit in his hands for a few seconds, my eyes moving between the cropped white tee and the charcoal pleated mini skirt. I hadn’t expected him to pick something quite like this. Slowly, I took the clothes from him, holding them against myself as I examined the combination in the mirror.

“Okay… I wasn’t expecting this.”

I tilted my head, looking at my reflection from a different angle. The pieces actually worked better together than I’d anticipated, especially with the chunky sneakers. I turned back toward Von, narrowing my eyes as I noticed the satisfied look on his face.

“Don’t get too excited. It’s not bad, but I’m still not convinced you know what you’re doing.”
“But I’ll give you this one. You’ve got potential.”

I picked up the skirt again, holding it against my waist with a small, reluctant smile. Von leaned back against the edge of a marble display case, watching her hold the pieces up against herself. He kept his expression neutral, but there was a definite spark of pride in his eyes as he watched her evaluate the look. When she mentioned his potential, he tipped his head back and let out a dry chuckle.

"Potential? Man, I'm tellin' you, I got the vision,"

he said, pushing off the counter and walking over to stand behind her. He peered at their combined reflection in the mirror, seeing her hold the skirt up against her hips.

"Look, you gotta trust the process. The skirt's gonna hit right with those legs of yours. And the crop top..."

He trailed off, his gaze lingering on the reflection for a beat longer than necessary before he cleared his throat and broke eye contact.

"Go change."

I looked at him through the mirror, catching the little spark of pride in his expression. A quiet laugh escaped me as I finally lowered the clothes from my waist and gathered the entire outfit into my arms. I had to admit, I was getting curious about how his choices would look once I actually tried them on.

“Alright, alright. I’ll trust your vision this time.”

I gave him a teasing little smile before turning toward the fitting rooms. Just before disappearing behind the curtain, I glanced back at him over my shoulder.

“And you’d better be right, Von. I’m trusting you with my entire outfit.”

With that, I stepped inside to change, leaving him to wait and wonder whether his styling skills had actually paid off. Von stayed leaning against the display case, his hands shoved deep into his pockets as he watched the curtain close behind her. He chewed on the inside of his cheek, feeling a strange mix of nerves and anticipation. Usually, he was the one getting styled, the one being judged. Having the spotlight on his own taste felt unfamiliar.

"Pressure's on, man,"

he muttered to himself, shaking his head. He paced a short line near the entrance of the fitting area, checking his phone briefly before shoving it back in his pocket. He couldn't sit still. A few minutes passed. He heard the soft rustle of fabric and the click of heels on the tile floor. Then the curtain slid open. When she stepped out, and Von went quiet.

I stepped out of the fitting room, smoothing down the pleated skirt before giving the outfit a quick glance in the mirror. The cropped white tee sat neatly with the charcoal skirt, while the chunky sneakers gave the whole look a more casual edge. I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and turned toward Von, expecting some kind of teasing comment. But he was unusually quiet. I blinked, looking at him for a moment before glancing down at my outfit again.

“What?”
“Why are you so quiet? Don’t tell me you already regret picking this.”

I turned slightly, checking the skirt from another angle. I looked back at him, trying to read his expression.

“Von? You good?”

Von snapped out of it, clearing his throat and rubbing the back of his neck. He forced a nonchalant shrug, but his eyes lingered on her a second too long before he could look away. The way the skirt hit above her knees and the cropped tee framed her figure—it was different from what he usually saw. Edgy, but somehow classy. Effortless.

"Nah, nah... I ain't regret nothin',"
"Just takin' it in. Had to make sure the vision came to life proper."

he said, pushing off the wall and taking a step toward her. He circled slowly, inspecting the fit like he was evaluating a piece of jewelry. He stopped in front of her, tilting his head as he looked her up and down. The silence stretched for a moment before he cracked that signature cocky grin. I watched him circle me with an increasingly skeptical expression, turning slightly whenever his eyes moved to another part of the outfit. When he finally stopped in front of me, I folded my arms and raised an eyebrow at his smug grin.

“You’re enjoying this way too much.”
“So? What’s the verdict? You picked everything, remember? You can’t just stand there looking pleased with yourself.”

I glanced down at the skirt and gave it a small tug before looking back at him. I took a small step closer, a teasing smile creeping onto my face.

“Come on, Von. Tell me I look good.”

Von let out a low whistle, his eyes traveling slowly from her face down to the hem of the skirt and back up again. He didn't answer right away—letting the tension hang for a second, because he knew exactly what he was doing. Finally, he leaned in just a little closer, his voice dropping into that gravelly tone.

"You look good,"
"Like... real good. Told you the vision was right."

Von admitted, almost reluctantly, like the words were costing him something. He reached out, his thumb brushing against the edge of the cropped tee near her waist, barely touching but enough to feel the warmth of her skin. He quickly pulled his hand back, stuffing it into his pocket.

"Skirt hits right. Tee fits right. Sneakers tie it all together."

I glanced down at the hem of my cropped tee where his thumb had briefly brushed against it, then looked back up at him with a slightly puzzled expression. His sudden retreat didn’t go unnoticed, and a small smile crept onto my face.

“You’re awfully proud of yourself now, aren’t you?”

I turned toward the mirror again, checking the outfit from the side before giving a little nod. As much as I hated admitting it, he had actually done a pretty good job. I looked at him through the reflection, smiling mischievously.

“Okay, fine. I like it.”

That was all the confirmation he needed. Von let out a triumphant huff, straightening up and puffing out his chest just a little. He couldn't hide the satisfaction written all over his face—the kind of look he only got when a deal went through or a track sounded perfect.

"See? Told you,"
"Visionary. Certified. Put it on the resume."

Von said, pointing a finger at her reflection in the mirror. He stepped up beside her in the mirror, comparing their reflections—him in his killer leather and Dior, her in the edgy streetwear he'd pieced together. They looked like a damn power duo. He nudged her shoulder with his, a playful gesture that brought them just a little closer than strictly necessary.

"We match energy now, though,"

He noted, eyeing her outfit compared to his. I looked at our reflections side by side, then glanced up at Von with an amused smile. The contrast between his leather jacket and my little skirt somehow made us look like we belonged in the same music video. I leaned slightly into his shoulder, looking him over once more.

“Match energy? You mean we look like we planned this?”
“Although, standing next to me like that, you don’t look nearly as intimidating anymore.”

I tilted my head, studying his reflection with a playful expression. I gave his arm a gentle nudge, clearly enjoying the thought.

“Look at you. My personal fashion boyfriend instead of the scary gang guy everyone talks about.”

Von snorted, shaking his head at the audacity coming out of her mouth. He loved it, though. Most people walked on eggshells around him, but she treated him like he was just some regular dude who happened to have millions in the bank. It was refreshing.

"Fashion boyfriend? Man, watch yo mouth,"

he teased, though he didn't pull away from her leaning against his shoulder. If anything, he settled into it, his weight shifting just enough to make it comfortable for her.

"Scary? Please. I'm the nicest nigga in the city. Ask anybody."
"And don't think I don't notice you tryna gas me up just 'cause I dressed you nice."

He grinned, flashing those bright teeth as he looked down at her through the mirror. I let out a quiet laugh, looking up at him with an almost disbelieving expression. The thought of him being the nicest person in the city was genuinely ridiculous, especially considering the reputation he carried. I shook my head, still smiling, and lightly tugged at the sleeve of his leather jacket.

“Nicest? That’s actually the most shocking thing I’ve heard all day.”
“I mean, I know you can be sweet. Just didn’t think you’d be going around telling people about it.”

I looked at him through the mirror, my smile turning a little softer. Von caught her tugging at his sleeve and looked down at her hand, then back at her face through the glass. His expression softened for a split second—something vulnerable peeking through the bravado—before he masked it with a smirk.

"Man, y'all love runnin yo mouths,"
"People talk. Always gon' talk. Can't please everybody."

he said, shaking his head. He adjusted his stance, closing the small gap between them just a fraction more. He paused, his dark eyes meeting hers in the reflection. There was a seriousness underneath the playfulness now, something quieter.

"But I do keep it real with the ones that matter. Everyone else? That's noise."
"…Anyway,"

He shrugged casually, but the weight of the statement hung in the air between them. I watched his expression through the mirror, noticing the brief shift in his eyes. I tilted my head, then gently rested my cheek against his upper arm, looking entirely too amused by his sudden seriousness.

“Why do you always get so philosophical out of nowhere?”
“We were literally just talking about your terrible reputation as a fashion boyfriend.”

I let out a small laugh, giving his sleeve another playful tug. I looked up at him, smiling.*

“Anyway, I like this version of you. The one who picks out my clothes and stands around waiting for compliments.”

Von rolled his eyes, but he couldn't stop the grin from breaking through. She was dangerous with that tongue of hers—always finding a way to flip the script on him. He looked down at her resting against his arm, and for a second, he just stood there, letting the moment settle. The store was loud, busy, but here in front of the mirror, it felt strangely quiet.

"Philosophical? Me?"
"I ain't philosophical. I'm observant. Big difference."

He scoffed, pulling his arm back just enough to cross it over his chest, though he didn't create any real distance. He shifted his weight, turning fully toward her now, abandoning the mirror. I looked up at him as he turned to face me, slowly raising an eyebrow. His insistence only made my smile grow wider. I reached over and lightly straightened the collar of his leather jacket, pretending to take his explanation seriously.

“Observant? Is that what we’re calling it now?”
“You’re awfully concerned about who’s real and who’s just noise. Sounds pretty philosophical to me.”

I tilted my head, studying his face with an exaggeratedly thoughtful expression. I gave his jacket a final little pat before stepping back.

“Don’t worry, I’ll keep your secret. Wouldn’t want your scary reputation getting ruined.”

Von laughed—a real one this time, not just a smirk—as she backed away from him. He watched her retreating form, noting the way the skirt swayed with every step. She was smart, too. Too smart. She knew exactly which buttons to push.

"Keep my secret? Girl, you been leakin' it since you walked in here,"

he called after her, his voice echoing slightly in the high ceilings of the   showroom. He fell into step behind her, matching her pace easily despite the height difference. As they rounded a corner past a display of diamond tennis necklaces, he slowed down just enough to fall alongside her. His shadow loomed large next to her smaller frame.

"Since you so worried about my reputation..."

“Since I’m so worried about your reputation… what?”

I couldn’t help laughing at his unfinished sentence, glancing up at him as we walked past the jewelry displays. I slowed down a little, looking at his face with an amused expression. I tilted my head, waiting for him to finish, then reached over to lightly tap the front of his leather jacket.

“Are you gonna tell me to stop exposing your sweet side? Because I think it’s a little too late for that.”
“Besides, I think your reputation can survive one girl saying you’re nice.”

I grinned, looking ahead again as I continued walking beside him. Von chuckled, shaking his head as he matched her stride. He looked down at her tapping his jacket, then back up at her face, his eyes hooded and unreadable for a moment.

"One girl? Nah, you ain't just one girl. You actin' like you ain't been testin' me since you stepped foot in this place,"

he said, his voice carrying a hint of warning wrapped in humor. He steered them toward a slightly quieter corner of the store, away from the main floor where customers were browsing. He stopped abruptly, causing her to either bump into him or halt. He placed a hand on the display case beside her, effectively boxing her in just a little.

"And yeah, I was gonna say... don't be callin' me sweet no more. I got a brand to uphold."

I stopped just before bumping into him, glancing up when he casually blocked my path. My eyes flickered to his hand resting against the display case, then back to his face. A small, amused smile tugged at my lips. I leaned back against the edge of the display case, looking entirely too entertained by his attempt to sound intimidating.

“Fine. I won’t call you sweet.”
“How about secretly adorable? That’s different, right?”

I paused for a moment, pretending to consider it. I gave his jacket a little pat before slipping past him, turning my head to look back at him with a grin. Von froze for a half-second, staring at the space she'd just vacated.

"Secretly adorable?"

he repeated under his breath, muttering it like a curse word. He rubbed his jaw, watching her stroll away with that effortless confidence of hers. She really thought she could just drop a bomb like that and walk away clean.

"Oh, you think you slick,"

he called out, a predatory sort of grin spreading across his face as he started following her again, faster this time. He wasn't even trying to act cool anymore; he was playing along now. He cut her off at the end of the aisle, intercepting her path before she could reach the exit. He didn't block her this time—not physically—but he closed the distance until he was standing directly in her orbit, forcing her to acknowledge him. I stopped when he appeared in front of me again, letting out a small, incredulous laugh. My eyes moved from his face to the aisle behind him before returning to him.

“Are you seriously following me around the entire store?”
“What’s next? You gonna chase me every time I call you adorable?”

I tilted my head, trying to look unimpressed, though the smile on my face gave me away. I crossed my arms loosely, taking a small step closer. I looked up at him, raising an eyebrow.

“Because, Von, you’re making it really hard for me to believe you’re not enjoying this.”

Von stared at her for a beat, his gaze dropping to her lips before snapping back up to her eyes. He let out a dry laugh, shaking his head. She had him dead to rights, and he knew it. The fact that she could see right through his bullshit was both infuriating and intoxicating.

"Hard to believe? Bitch, you BEEN knowing I enjoy this,"

he said, his voice dropping lower, roughened by the truth of it. He stepped even closer, so close she could probably smell the expensive cologne clinging to his jacket and the faint scent of whatever he'd had earlier in the day.

"And yeah, I might chase you if I gotta. See how far you gon' run."

I held his gaze, visibly trying not to smile at the way he said it. For a moment, I didn’t move at all. Then I slowly glanced down at the space between us before looking back up at him.

“Who said I was gonna run?”
“You’re the one following me around, remember?”

I raised an eyebrow, taking a small step to the side as if I were considering slipping past him again. But instead, I stayed right I raised an eyebrow, taking a small step to the side as if I were considering slipping past him again. But instead, I stayed right where I was, looking far too pleased with myself. I was, looking far too pleased with myself. I reached up and straightened the collar of his leather jacket, brushing away an invisible speck of dust.

“Besides, if you keep chasing me like this, people are gonna start thinking you actually like me.”

Von's hands found her waist before he even realized he was moving, his fingers pressing firmly against the fabric of her top. He tightened his grip just enough to hold her steady, grounding himself in the reality that she hadn't moved away. Not yet.

"Let 'em think what they wanna think,"

he murmured, his voice vibrating deep in his chest. He leaned down, bringing his face level with hers, his nose almost brushing hers. Up close, the intensity in his eyes was impossible to ignore—dark, focused, and completely fixed on her.

"They already think I'm crazy. One more thing ain't gon' change that."

His other hand came up, his knuckles grazing her jawline as he tilted her chin up just a fraction more, forcing her to meet his stare fully. For once, I didn’t have an immediate comeback. His hands at my waist and the way he tilted my chin made me pause, my teasing smile softening as I looked straight into his eyes. I could feel my own confidence slipping just a little, but I wasn’t about to let him know how much he was getting to me.

“Crazy, huh?”
“Well, I guess that makes two of us.”

I repeated the word quietly, a small smile returning to my lips. My hands settled against the front of his leather jacket, lightly gathering the material between my fingers. I glanced at his eyes, then briefly at his lips before meeting his gaze again.

“But you know what’s funny? You keep saying you don’t care what people think, yet you’re the one making sure I know exactly how much you like having me around.”
“You’re not very good at hiding it, you know.”

I gave his jacket a gentle tug, just enough to bring him a fraction closer. Von's breath hitched almost imperceptibly at the tug, his body responding to the closeness before his mind could catch up. He swallowed hard, his throat bobbing with the motion. She was right, and they both knew it. He wasn't fooling anyone, least of all himself.

"I ain't tryin' to hide nothin',"
"Just... makin' sure you understand what's goin' on here."

he said, his voice rougher than usual. His thumb brushed over her bottom lip, a feather-light touch that sent sparks through his fingertips. He searched her face, looking for any sign of hesitation or discomfort. Finding none, he leaned in even closer, his forehead almost touching hers now. His voice dropped to a low rumble, meant only for her ears.

"You playin' a dangerous game, you know that?"

I went quiet for a moment, my fingers still curled into the front of his jacket. His words lingered between us, and I found myself studying his expression, trying to catch even the smallest hint of a joke. There wasn’t one. My gaze briefly dropped to his thumb before returning to his eyes. A faint smile tugged at the corner of my mouth, though there was something softer beneath it now.

“Then maybe you should stop explaining it and show me.”

I said it lightly, almost like another tease, but I didn’t look away. My hand slowly relaxed against his jacket, smoothing out the material I’d gathered.

“And dangerous game? Von, you were the one who started following me around the store.”
“Don’t start acting like I’m the troublemaker here.”

I tilted my head, letting a little of my usual mischief return. Von's eyes darkened at her challenge, a dangerous glint appearing in their depths. He'd given her plenty of chances to back down, to put some distance between them. But she kept pushing, kept throwing gasoline on the fire he'd been trying to contain. And fuck if he didn't want to burn with her.

"You want me to show you?"

he asked, his voice a low, threatening purr. Without waiting for an answer, he slid his hand from her jaw to the back of her neck, tangling his fingers in her hair. In one swift motion, he pulled her flush against him, eliminating any remaining space between their bodies.

The kiss was fierce, hungry, all the pent-up tension from their back-and-forth finally exploding. For a brief second, I was too surprised to react. My fingers tightened instinctively against his jacket, and I found myself leaning into him as the initial shock gave way to a quiet, breathless smile. When we finally parted, I stayed close, my eyes lingering on his face. I looked almost as though I were trying to decide whether to laugh at him or kiss him again.

“Well…”
“That was one way to make your point.”

I paused, brushing my thumb over the lapel of his jacket. A small smile crept across my face as I looked up at him.

“Guess I should stop calling you secretly adorable now, huh?”

Von was breathing heavily, his heart pounding in his chest like he'd just run a mile. He loosened his grip on her hair but didn't let go entirely, keeping her close. When she spoke, he blinked, focusing on her face as if seeing her for the first time.

"Yeah, you should,"
"And you better not forget it neither."

he agreed, his voice raspier than usual. He cleared his throat, trying to regain some semblance of control. He studied her for a long moment, searching for any sign that he'd gone too far. But she was smiling, her eyes bright and challenging as ever. Relief flooded through him, mixing with the adrenaline still singing in his veins.

"So... we good here?"

he asked, raising an eyebrow. His thumb traced idle patterns on the back of her neck, a tactile reminder of their proximity. I looked at him for a second, my smile growing at the way he seemed to be waiting for a proper answer. I lifted one hand to his cheek, gently brushing my thumb along it.

“Yeah, we’re good.”
“…Actually, I think we’re better than good.”

I leaned in and pressed a small kiss to his cheek, lingering just long enough to make my answer unmistakable. Then I pulled back, looking at him with an almost unbearably pleased expression. My fingers slipped down to his hand, intertwining with his.

“So… what are we, then?”
“I mean, you just kissed me… and I’m pretty sure that makes this a little more than just shopping together.”

I tilted my head, looking up at him with a small, expectant smile. My fingers remained intertwined with his, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. Von felt the warmth of her kiss on his cheek, followed by the cool air as she pulled away. He looked down at their joined hands, feeling the weight of her question settle on his shoulders. What were they? It was a fair question, and one he didn't have a ready answer for. He took a deep breath, his thumb absently rubbing circles on the back of her hand. When he met her gaze again, his expression was serious, stripped of its usual bravado.

"I don't know what we are,"
"All I know is... I ain't never felt like this before. About nobody."

he admitted, his voice low and honest. He brought their joined hands up, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. His eyes never left hers, dark and intense.

"But I do know I wanna find out."

I watched him for a moment, my expression softening at his honesty. I gave his hand a gentle squeeze, then smiled. I leaned closer, brushing my shoulder against his

"Then let's just say we're together."
"We don't have to figure everything out tonight. We can take our time, get to know each other better, and see where this goes."

I glanced down at our intertwined fingers before looking back up at him, a playful little smile returning to my face. I gave his hand another squeeze, looking entirely too pleased with myself.

"Besides, I think I like the idea of being your girl."
"So, boyfriend... are you going to take me on an actual date, or are we spending our whole first day together in this store?"

A slow, genuine smile spread across Von's face at her words, the kind that transformed his usually stern features into something surprisingly warm. He chuckled softly, shaking his head at her antics.

"A date, huh? I guess I can arrange that,"
"But don't go gettin' used to it. This is a one-time thing."

he said, his tone light but sincere. He squeezed her hand back, relishing the simple contact. He winked at her, unable to resist the urge to tease her just a little. But there was a tenderness in his eyes that undermined the jest.

"And you better not tell nobody I agreed to this shit. I got a rep to uphold, you know."

With that, he started leading her towards the exit, his arm sliding naturally around her waist as they walked. I let out a delighted laugh, following him toward the exit. When his arm settled around my waist, I naturally leaned into his side, looking up at him with an amused smile.

“Your reputation? Oh, don’t worry. I’ll protect it.”
“Although, I might have to tell everyone you’re actually a sweetheart. Just so they know.”

I paused for a moment, pretending to consider something before adding in a much sweeter voice. I gave his side a playful nudge, then slipped my arm around his waist as we stepped outside.

“And for the record, I’m holding you to that date. You can’t call it a one-time thing and then never take me out again.”

Von groaned dramatically as they stepped out onto the sidewalk, the warm evening air enveloping them. He kept his arm securely around her as they began walking, his thumb tracing idle patterns on her hip.

"Sweetheart? Really? You tryna ruin me, huh?"
"And fine, fine. I'll take you out. Don't go gettin' all excited though. Probably just dinner or somethin' boring like that."

Despite his words, there was no real heat behind them. If anything, he sounded almost fond, like he was indulging her. He shook his head, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. They walked in comfortable silence for a few moments, the bustle of the city surrounding them. Finally, Von spoke again, his voice softer than before.

"Hey... thanks for givin' me a chance."

My smile softened at his words. I slowed my steps a little, turning my head to look at him properly. For once, I didn’t have a teasing remark ready. I gently slipped my hand into his, lacing our fingers together. I leaned a little closer to his side, looking ahead for a moment before glancing back up at him.

“You don’t have to thank me for that. I wanted to give you a chance.”
“And besides, I think I’m getting a pretty good deal here. I get a boyfriend who’s secretly sweet, takes me shopping, and apparently knows how to plan a date.”
“So don’t start thinking you have to earn your place with me, okay? Just be yourself. I wanna get to know all of you.”

I smiled, giving his hand a small squeeze. Von felt something shift inside him at her words, a warmth settling in his chest that had nothing to do with the summer evening. He looked down at their joined hands, marveling at how natural it felt, how right.

"Be myself, huh? Well, lucky for you, that's all I've ever been,"

he said, his voice gruff but not unkind. He brought their joined hands up, pressing a kiss to her knuckles before tucking them into the crook of his elbow, holding her closer.

"And trust me, babe... you ain't seen nothin' yet. Stick around, and I'll show you all sides of me. The good, the bad, and the ugly."

There was a note of vulnerability in his words, a rare glimpse beneath the tough exterior. He met her gaze, his dark eyes serious but hopeful. I looked up at him, my expression turning thoughtful for a moment before a small smile appeared on my lips. I gently leaned against his arm, swinging our joined hands between us.

“Well, I already know you’re not exactly an angel.”
“But I don’t think you have to be one for me to like you.”

I gave him a playful look, then reached up to brush a stray bit of hair away from his forehead. I paused, looking into his eyes with a softer expression.

“I wanna know all those sides of you, Von. Even the ones you don’t show everybody else.”
“Besides, you’re my own little Devil now. I think I’m allowed to be a little biased.”

My smile turned a little mischievous. Von's breath caught slightly at her touch, his eyes fluttering closed for just a moment as she brushed his hair aside. When he opened them again, there was a new intensity in his gaze, a mix of desire and something deeper, more profound.

"Your Devil, huh?"
"Careful what you wish for, baby. Might just bite off more than you can chew."

he murmured, his voice low and husky. He leaned down, his lips barely brushing her ear as he spoke. He pulled back slightly, just enough to meet her eyes again. His free hand came up to cup her cheek, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. Despite the heat in his words, there was a tenderness in his touch, a gentleness that belied his rough exterior.

"But I gotta admit... I like the sound of that."

I couldn’t help but laugh softly at his warning, my cheeks warming as I looked up at him. I placed my hand over his, which was still resting against my cheek, and turned my face just enough to press a small kiss into his palm.

“Well, I guess I’m willing to take my chances.”
“Besides, I think my little devil is pretty harmless when he’s with me.”

I gave him one last playful smile before leaning into his side again, resting my head against his shoulder as we continued down the sidewalk. I squeezed his hand, then glanced up at him.

“Come on, boyfriend. Walk me home. You’ve got a whole lifetime of dates to plan now.”

I smiled to myself, feeling strangely happy about how easily the word boyfriend had slipped into conversation. For once, I wasn’t in a hurry to get anywhere. Von's heart swelled at her words, a feeling of contentment washing over him that he'd never experienced before. He wrapped his arm tighter around her, pulling her close as they walked, her head fitting perfectly under his chin.

"A lifetime of dates, huh? You sure you wanna commit to that?"

he teased, but there was no real doubt in his voice. He knew, with a certainty that surprised him, that he wanted this - wanted her - for as long as she'd have him. As they strolled through the city streets, the setting sun painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Von felt a sense of peace settle over him. For the first time in longer than he could remember, he wasn't worried about tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that.
